Description
The ViPrimePLUS Canine Herpesvirus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Canine Herpes Virus genome in organ tissues such as liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys, faeces, blood, urine, vaginal and penile secretions, and nasal and oral discharges.
Canine Herpesvirus (CHV) is a double-stranded DNA virus that causes fatal haemorrhagic diseases in puppies that are less than 3 weeks old. The mortality rate is often reported as 100% in the affected litter. Survivors are usually left with cardiac and brain damage or other neurological disease. Infection in *****s is usually asymptomatic and mild resulting in sores in the genital area, ocular and respiratory discomforts. The virus can be transmitted vertically during birth giving from the infected dam to the neonates or horizontally during mating and oronasal contact. Lower temperature tends to stimulate aggressive viral replication. Therefore, newborns before weaning (less than 1 week old) are more susceptible to severe disease manifestation than *****s due to their lack of ability to regulate body temperature. Infected female dogs may develop antibodies and pass them on to the litters subsequent to the first infected litter. Puppies that receive maternal antibodies may be infected with the virus, but disease does not result. Vaccine available is not effective in providing lifelong protection and antiviral drugs have been generally unsuccessful.
ViPrimePLUS Canine Herpes Virus qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
