Description
The ViPrimePLUS Clostridium perfringens qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of all Clostridium perfringens species genomes in faecal and food samples.
Clostridium spp. represents a group of anaerobic, spore-forming, Gram positive bacteria that infects the gastrointestinal tract, causing serious diarrhea, or the nervous system, causing neurological damage. Clostridium spp. has great survival mechanisms because it sporulates under extreme conditions, but transform into infectious form when the environment turns favorable again. Clostridium perfringens is normally isolated from soil and areas polluted with animal and human feces. It is further classified into 5 biotypes, A-E based on the different types of exotoxin produced. Type A strain is the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK and USA. It causes gastroenteritis and hemorrhagic bowel syndrome in human and cattle due to its alpha toxin. Aside from acquiring the infection through consumption of eating poorly cooked meat, entry via wounds will lead to gas gangrene (tissue death). Type B strain produces alpha, beta (necrotizing) and epsilon (pore-forming) toxins that causes enterotoxemia in calves, lambs and foals, but rarely found in human.
ViPrimePLUS Clostridium perfringens qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
