Description
The ViPrimePLUS Mycobacterium tuberculosis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genomes in clinical samples (e.g. sputum, nasopharyngeal fluid and throat swab).
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a Gram positive, fastidious, obligate aerobe which causes major lower respiratory tract disease, namely tuberculosis. Tuberculosis (TB) is the second lead killer of infectious disease with 1.4 million reported deaths reported in 2011. About a third of the world's population suffered from latent TB, where there are 10% chances for them to fall ill to the disease. Immunocompromised patients and smokers seem to have increased risk for developing active TB infection. The disease starts with mild symptoms thus making it difficult for early treatment. TB and HIV co-infection is a major concern as the patient is 21 to 34 times more likely to develop active TB disease and almost 25% of deaths in AIDS patients are due to TB. The treatment is usually via a course of antibiotic administration. However the evolution of multidrug resistant TB strains has required the use of stronger drugs for treatment.
ViPrimePLUS Mycobacterium tuberculosis qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
